Quad City 45, MANCHESTER 42
It was a tale of two halves for the Manchester Wolves in their historic
home opener as they fell just short of a dramatic comeback against the Quad City Steamwheelers, 45-42, Saturday night at the
Verizon Wireless Arena. The Wolves played their first home game in Manchester in front of a near capacity crowd of 9,005.
After being down 19 at halftime with the game almost out of reach,
the Wolves went on to outscore the Steamwheelers, 33-17. With the scored tied at 42-42, Quad City kicker Ryan Geisler sealed
the Wolves' fate by connecting on a last-second, 17-yard field goal.
Quad City WR/DB Jeff Hewitt earned Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player
of the Game honors with 7 catches for 172 yards and one touchdown. Hewitt also ran scoered on a 53-yard kickoff return to
put the Steamwheelers ahead 21-3 early in the second quarter.
The ARMY Ironman of the Game and ADT Defensive Player of the Game
went to Manchester's Josh Liddell. Liddell's overall efforts were key in the Wolves second half charge. Overall, he collected
three catches for 27 yards, one interception return for a 35-yard touchdown, one sack, and 4.5 tackles.
Henry Frazier also contributed for the Wolves with four catches for
98 yards and one missed FG return for a 54-yard touchdown.
The Wolves next game is Friday, April 16, on the road in Albany, N.Y.
against the Albany Conquest.
